ENTERTAINMENTS

At His Majesty’s Theatre this evening, tlie Gaversham School Choir will give its annual concert. This musical body has won its laurels by dint of constant practice, until now it has become the recognised exponent of juvenile singing. Musicians of distinction both in the dominion and Australia have been greatly impressed with the exquisite rendering of difficult part music by the choir. The full chorus will be accompanied on two pianos and an organ. Ihe programme is a varied one, and is compiled to demonstrate the training and ability of the young members. A concert in aid of the North-East Harbour School Fund was held in the lif.ll. the programme being arranged by Mr 11. P. Desmoulins, who was fortunate in being able to secure tho sendees of Mrs Astley Black, Misses N. Osborn, S. Mitchell, D. Mitchell, L. M’Donald, and G. Webster, Messrs D. M’Neill and Crewes. The concert was judged by the large audience present to be one of the best ever held in the Bay. The Brighton Carnival Committee held its weekly meeting at Mr Bush’s residence, Brighton, on Saturday. There was a very large attendance and a good night’s business was got through. Reports from the organiser and convenors of the various sub-committees were handed in which showed that good progress had been made with all the arrangements for the carnival, which is to be held in the Domain on December 30 and January 1 and 2. An attractive programme of sports events, piping and dancing competitions, etc., has been arranged. There will also be the usual ifiimher of side shows and amusements for the children, while the public will be well provided for in tho very complete arrangements that have been made for the catering.
