OTAGO INSTITUTE
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Otago Institute was held in the Museum last night. Mr H. Brasch (president) occupied the' chair, and about, 30 members were present. Ihe report of the council showed that the membership of the institute at. the beginning of the year was 135. Since then 17 persons had resigned and two had died—namely, Messrs D. Brent and A. M'Lean. Thirty-three new members had been enrolled, making the present membership IS9. Ten meetings of the council were convened, and eight ordinary meetings of the institute held, the average attendance being about, 50. A sub-committee had been set up to go into the possibility of arranging a scientific expedition to the Chatham Islands in the summer of 1923-4. The council desired to express the thanks of the institute to Mr J. O. Begg for his valuable gilt of a 12in reflecting telescope. The balance sheet for the year showed a credit balance of £242 Is 9d. The gross receipts amounted to £195 4s Id, the expenditure being £412 6s, including a donation of £2OO towards the cost of the observatory. On the motion of the president, seconded by Mr J. W. Mil ties, the report and the balance sheet were adopted. The following officers were elected: —President. Dr Malcolm; vice-presidents. Dr Benson and Mr H. Brasch; non. secretary, Mr William Martin (re-elected); bon. treasurer, Mr J. .S. Begg (re-clected): hon. auditor, Mr J. W. Milnos (re-elected); council — (he Hon. G. M. Thomson. Dr H. V. Fulton. Mr 11. D. Skinner. Dr Stuart Moore, Professor Park, Professor Waters, and Mr M. Mandeno. A hearty vote of (hanks was accorded the president for his services last year.
