PLIGHT OF CHRISTIAN MINORITIES. WHOLESALE MASSACRE. JOINT INVESTIGATION. PROPOSED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, May 16. (Received May 16, at 8.5 p.m.) Mr Chamberlain, in the House of Commons, said that Lord Curzon has sept the French, Italian, and American Governments proposals for an immediate Jomt investigation into the grave charges against the Angora Turks of cruelty and barbarity towards the Christian minorities in Asia Minor, Mr Chamberlain read statements of Dr Ward, Near Eastern Relief Commissioner, stating that the Turks are deliberately planning to exterminate the Christian minorities. They are herding the Ottoman Greeks into Amasia in such a manner that large numbers die on the roads, on which thousands of dead have been counted. These atrocities have been going on for seven years. Mr Chamberlain added that confirmation has been received of Major Youell’s report that the Turks murdered 10.00' Greeks, afterwards seizing the widows and daughters and transferring them to their harems.—A. and N.Z.
