Notification was made of the conferring of First Degree at South Otago District meeting this week. P. 6. Bro. F. Wilkineon was appointed instructor and placed in charge of the initiatory work, with die view ot the lodge entering a team for the April competitions undertaken by the South Otago. District Lodge; From the reports pus forward it was evident that the establiahment of a hill ’ juvenile lodge is almost an accomplished fact. To the cordial vote of thanks to visitors', Bro. Robertson (Lin,: cten) responded, inviting members to the next meeting of that lodge. Bro F Wilkinson, on behalf of St. Kilda Lodge, appealed tp members to , visit that lodge as fluently as possible. K ; Br° ; Maurice K. Glovor presided at the fortnightly meeting of Linden Lodge , -n January 25, when a candidate for benefit membership was initiated, and a fair amount or ’business disposed of. A number of new ’ members were recommended to the Degree i»dg© for advancement. A favourable pro- ' froas report was presented appertaining to the formation by the landed and Maori r.% 63 ° f a juvenile benefit lodge. 1 P.D.D.G.M. Bro. J. Pattison presented Bro. K. , Glover with a P.G.’s diploma, the remflhing a fitting acknowledgment. F.L. Bro. Loscombe, of Unity Lodge, announced that a proposal was' in train to . form a veterans’ team to enter the lists in a ntual competition. P.G. Bro. F. ' whose love for Oddfeliowship was unmistakable, was feelingly acknowledged hv several brethren who had , been associated with the late Bro.‘ Bisset in the work of tno order. - The usual monthly meeting of the Sooth y 1 ??® and Degree Lodges, was - held, bn Thursday last when reports were received from the DJD.G.M.; PJD.D.G.M. Bro. D. Swinton and P.D.D.G.M. Bro. W. Smith as regards visiting and carrying out installations at Balclutha, Clinton, ; and Owaka respectively, reports which show these lodges to be very sound in member, ship and general efficiency. TJi© D.D.XJ.M also reported that a hew lodge'had been instituted by Grand Treasurer Bro. L. Doans Ritchie at Tahakopa, and that prospects were very bright as regards the. future prosperity of No. 91. P.G.M. Bro. A.' H. Valentine also told of visits he had .- paid to some 32 lodges throughout the nor- - thern part of the jurisdiction, his remarks- ! proving that OddfeUowsbip generally was ;ia. a very sound condition. He also reedpro* ' cated fraternal greetings to South Otago District. During the meeting the first degree was conferred upon six members— i aspirants, for higher honours in their re-,, spective lodges. The first meeting of 1922 of Horewoka Lodge, Portobelld, was held on January 14, when a splendid attendance greeted N.G. Bro. A. Dick. One candidate was admitted and two proposed—a very good start, for the new year. Business was expeditiously disposed ’of to allow. D.D.G.M. Bro.- J. •Skinner, assisted by D.D.G.M. Bro. D.. Swinton, D.D.G. Chap. Bto. J. Shore, D.D.G. Guard Bro F. Fox, and D.D.G. Marshal Bro. W. Spencer, to instep the officers for the new term. The ceremony was well performed, and the following were installed:—l.P.G., Bro. A. Dick; N.G., Bro. A. Hanna; V.G., Bro. Jno. M‘Kay; Sec., Bro. .J. Clearwater; Ureas., Bro. D. Rutherford; Chaplain, Bro. C. Olsen; R.S.M.G., Bro. W. Seaton; LB.M.G., Bro. R. Dick; Warden, Bro. H. Brown; Con., Bro. D. MTCay;, R.S.V.G., Bro. M. Anderson; Bro. P. Kem&hed; R.R.S., Bro. Jas. Cross}. L.S.S., Bro. K. Weir; 1.G., Bro. V. Duck* marten; 0.G., Bro. Dick. The D.D.G.M. addressed the members asking them to rally round the N.G. and assist him in furthering the best interests of the lodge, thus keeping it at is present high standard' of efficiency. At the close of the meeting the visitors were hospitably entertained and the toasts were acknowledged by the installing officers, and by Bro. Robinson (Unity), Bro. Fox (Leit£), and Bro. Lorimer (Linden). -
