THEFT AND FORGERY

YOUNG MAN’S LAPSE (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, January 31. A young man aged 18 years, employed at the National Bank, was charged in the Police Court with theft and forgery involving nearly £340. Ho was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Accused admitted that he stole a cheque, opened an account in his own name in the Savings Bank, and subsequently withdrew the money. Then ho drew a cheque for £250, forging the name of the chairman to this. He also deposited it in his own name in the Savings Bank. Ho realised he had done wrong, and burnt his bank book. The name of the accused was ordered to be withheld from publication on account of his youth.
