THE IRISH SOCIETY

The annual mooting of the Irish Society was held in the Overseas Club Rooms on Thursday, Mr Eyan being in the chair. After tho adoption of the report and balance sheet, tho election of office-bearers for- the coming year was proceeded with. The following life members, were elected;—The 'Rev. Dr Waddell, Mr J. T. Sullivan, and 1 Mr ‘ E., P. Nolan. During the evening, the president (Mr Ryan) paid; tribute to ; the, newly-elected life members; to the Rev. Dr Wflddell for his help and encouragement to the society in its early struggles; and • to. Mr Sullivan and Mr Nolan; each of whom has in the past filled the presidential chair, and given time unsparingly to the interests of the society. On behalf of tho society the president welcomed l a very ’distinguished Irish visitor, the Rev. Brother Purton from Adelaide. On rising’to respond* Rev. Brother Purton gave a short and interesting, sketch of the 'work of tho Adelaide Irish Society, which was listened to with groat interest. The following contributed items towards the evening’s entertainment;—Miss Brady, song, “Come Back to Erin”; Mr Seymour, songs, 1 “Mother Machreo” and “Father, O’Flynn”; Miss O’Sullivan, song, “Rory Darlin’ ”; Miss Gallagher, - recitation, “Hold tho Harvest”; Mr Fogarty, song, “Oh, Steer My Barque”; Mr Rodgers, song, “The Minstrel Boy”; Miss Healy, recitation, “How I Envied M'Ginty”; and Mr Seymour, song, “The Charming Little Girl from Clare.” The evening closed with the Irish JNational Anthem.
