TAIERI COUNTY COUNCIL

The monthly meeting of tho Taieri County Council was attended by Cxa W. Blackio (chairman), J. W. Blair, F. Doherty, C. Findlay, W. H. L. Christie, El A. Kempshell, and A. Soott. " The Finance Committee, reported that, tho receipts for the past eight weeks amounted to £2813 XOs lid. Accounts totalling £1524 ,1 17s Id were passed for payment. Tie bank book showed a debit 'balance of £146 Gs Bd. The Sanitary Inspector reported that all tho slaughter-houses in tho county were in a clean condition. He had investigated a complaint from Green Island concerning the piggery there. The nuisance was caused by some manure that had been carted on to a piece of land to be sown in turnips, and not from tho piggery.—Received. The Ranger reported Having impounded 36 cattle and three horses.—Received. The Public Works Department forwarded copy of Ordeivin-Council exempting the south-eastern side of portion of Gladstone road, subject to a condition as to the building line, from section 117 of “The 1 Public Works' Act.—Noted. , The Selwyn and Ashly County Councils forwarded a circular in regard to the hospital levy. It was held that the levy should be assessed on l>oth population an£ capital value.—The council resolved to support,the resolution, but considered that a more equitable way would be the payment of the levy out of the Consolidated Fund. Some correspondence' was read from, the , ■Department of Health concerning need fof improvements in sanitary conditions, and the abolition of certain nuisances in various parts of the county.—lt was reported that the matters had received duo attention. The amount of tho correspondence showed that the Health ■ Department officers had been active within, the county during the past two months. The Heathoato County Council wrote asking support to a resolution calling oh Parliament to amend tho Counties Act of 1920, so as to include section. 335 of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1920,’’ dealing with tho subdivision of land.—Received. The Stratford County Council asked support to a resolution urging the Government to remit the duty on cement for local bodies, —Received. . The Waimea County Council asked for cooperation to have a resolution carried urging the Government; to amend the Eating Act by inserting a clause enabling local bodies to make a rebate of 5 per cent, to all persons paying their general rates within SO days from the date on which such became due.—Received. Some correspondence was placed before the council, with regard to charges for two lights for the main street in Berwick township.—The matter was referred to the member for the riding. . . • i T. R. Sormtag _ wrote in regard Ito tlie breaking of the river ' bank at his property et Silverstream.—Referred to chairman, ‘Or Findlay, and the engineer to report. Wm. Kirkland, Green Island, wrote in regard to trees on the corner of hie property, Brighton road. Ho suggested that the corner,, which was dangerous, should bo cut off. He would raise no objection to his fence being shifted back the necessary distance.—To be attended to, the offer being accepted with thanks. h J. P. Lister, Hin don, asked that the road in to Style’s bridge, Deep Stream, bo graded. —Held over in the meantime. W. A. Mundell, Traquair, Outram, wrote objecting, to the removal of tho surfaceman to Deep Stream.—The councillor JAr the riding reported that the roads wore in good order, and the engineer; explained the necessity for removing the- man to other work.— Tho letter was Alex. In the absence of Cr Matheeon the term of the appointment was only made for one month in the meantime.
