AMATEUR GOLF
NEW CHAMPIONSHIP RULES,
STROKE PLAY IN QUALIFYING ROUNDS. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, January 24. The amateur golfers, by an overwhelming majority, voted in favour of a suggested new amateur rule that the qualifying rounds of the amateur championship be decided by stroke play instead of match play. Two hundred and forty-seven competitors in the championships of 1920 and 1921 were circularised, with the result that 129 favoured the proposal, and 19 were against it, while 99 did not reply. A petition, was presented to the authorities forthwith requesting that the change should govern the 1922 championship at Prestwick in May. The proposal provides that 52 competitors may qualify by stroke play, aiid these will afterwards be drawn to meet over 36 holes in match play. — A. and N.Z. Cable.
