ARBITRATION ACT

PROPOSED AMENDMENTS. i PROTEST BY WORKERS’ ORGANISATIONS. (Pm United Press Association. i WELLINGTON, January 26. A deputation from the workers’ organisations waited dn the Hon. G. J. Anderson, Minister of Labour, to-day to protest against the proposed amendments to tho Arbitration Act. Strong objections were taken to them, and it was claimed that they were all in favour of the employers, and workers had not asked for any of the amendments. One member said they were going to oppose the Bill tooth and nail regardless of whether it became law or not. It was now a question of whether the workers’ organisations were to be killed outright or whether the Government was to be killed. The Minister said tho Bill, was to be considered by the Com mi tee to-morrow. He said he had heard their evidence, and could compliment them on the way they bad put their case. He was not prepared to say what he would do now, but he would take into very careful consideration what they had said, more especially with reference to assessors, local bodies, and clause 11. He did not think tho penalty clause would operate in the way they said it would; He was legally advised that it would not, and ho would not think of making such an absurd provision. He would also look into tho question of court representation, but he could hold out very little hope of alteration with regard to the A.S.R.S.. though he would consult the Minister of Railways on the point.
