THE WORLD’S CREDITOR
REFUNDING OF ALLIED DEBTS. SENATOR BORAH’S FORCEFUL COMMENT. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. WASHINGTON, January 25. (Received Jan. 26, at 8.10 p.m.) Senator Borah, in participating in the debate on'the Allied Debt Refunding Bill, declared that the Allies, by revising the Versailles Treaty and reducing their armies even to a reasonable extent, could meet the interest payments on their debts to the United States and repay part of the principal. He added: “ I maintain that it is an insult to the American people to ask them to forgo any longer the collection of money that will be used lor purposes not only destructive of the peace of Europe but of the whole world. No man, under the present policy and under the existing treaties in Europe, can foretell when these nations will be able to begin to pay the interest. The danger to Europe lies in the apparent effort to destroy Germany.” —A. and N.Z. Cable.
