The Soldiers and Dependents' Welfare Uomrmtteo's report for consideration at tho montnly meeting of the association, states that ths total expenditure for August was as follows:—Belief to dependents (less refunds, £2 lis 6d], £644 (fe Hd; allowances to soldisrs (less refunds, £31 6s 8d), 17s lOd ; advancee to soldiers (less refunds, £5S 15s 6d), £5 3s 4d; comforts to soldiers in hospital. £45 9s sd; administrative expenses (less refunds, £27 Is Sd), £121 8s 7d;—total.' £1271 13s sd. Tho Soldiers' Committee reports that 115 applications were received during the month, and the committee's decisions were: Grants (37) totalling £102 9s Bd,- weekly allowances (26, amounting to £38 4s, clothing (20) valued at £62 ?9s; 13 were referred to other societies, whose cases they w-src; seven were deferred for further consideration and report; and 12 were declined. Tho Dependents' Committee reports that 39 rrew applications were considered, the committee recording l scale allowances to 25. Special grants amounting to £32 17s 9d wero allotted to nine claimants, four received weekly _ allowances of £1 each, and ono was deshned. There were 44 cases brought up for review, 17 being continued at the presen'o rate; 10 received special grants totalling £29 16s, nine were granted weekly allowances amounting- to £-5 7s 6d, two were increased, and one was deferred. The Discharged Soldiers' Employment Bureau reporte that during the month 24 men were placed in employment, whilst 27 men are still on the "employment wanted" register.
