SPORTS GALA TO-MORROW

It is an arresting fact that pver 500 young people take part in qrganised sports games on the Oval each line Saturday during the winter. iSieed morq be said to point the duty of the civic fathers and citizens in the .matter of providing dressing accommodation? Ticket-sellers m connection with the sports gala at Carisnrook on Saturday, as well as the evening entertainment, report a very encouraging response, indicating a general sympathy with the movement to provide this accommodation. The sports in themselves, however, promise an excellent return_ for the small investment. There are to be no go-as-you-please games, but fast, spirited contests, each of from 30 to 60 minutes' duration, between players capable of showing the best in each sport. At 2.15 p.m. the Otago and Momona ladies' hockey teams will try conclusions. At 2.45 p.m. tho Otago Representatives and High School Old Boys will present scientific "soccer," and will be followed by two sturdy men's hockey elevens representing Gymnastic and Uni-versity-City combined. The climax will be an unusual Rugby attraction, Pirates-Uni-versity combined v. an Otago representative team. Appropriately sandwiched there will be two capital running events—looyds and one-mile handicaps. The St. Ivilda Band will play during the afternoon, and Mornington, Forbury, and High Street School Bands will also enliven proceedings. Afternoon tea will be procurable.
