ENGINEERS' STRIKE

The members of the local branch of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers, having bedn unable to come to terms with the mining , companies in connection with a dispute over the wages and hours clauses as set out in the recent award, came out on strike at noon to-day. At present only about 50 men are involved, but unless a settlement can be reached at an early date the position will become serious and far-reaching , . A conference with the heads of the mining companies was held yesterday afternoon after a stop-work meeting, and in the evening the men notified the companies that unless their demands were acceded to the men would cease work to-day, v
