SHIPPING COMPANY'S ACCOUNTANT.
APPEAL AGAINST ENROLMENT. CASE ADJOURNED SINE DIE. (Pee United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 27. _At tho Military Scrvico Board to-day a sine die adjournment ivas granted in respect of tho New Zealand Shipping Company's appeal on behalf of James Neville Barns, its acting accountant in Wellington, a voluntary recruit. It was stated that the company's Wellington accountant had enlisted, and Barns was acting in his place. Ho hid been in the servicc of the oompany for SO years, and was well qualified to fill important positions. About naif the company's staff had' gone, tho company having given its men leave of absence with halfpay when they enlisted; and it was urged thut any further depletion of the experienced men would interfere seriously with the quick despatch of steamers. It was not a matter of profit to tho company, as the company's steamers are all requisitioned'by tho Imperial Government., which pays ail expenses and takes all earnings.
