In the Magistrate's "Court this morning Norton Thompson, solicitor, of Hastings, was remanded for n week on a charge of misappropriating £530, tho property of Gotfret Albert Petrowski, about the 29th of July, 1916. Bail was allowed. WELLINGTON, May 25. Cabinet's consideration of the Second Division League's proposals was not completed at to-day's meeting. Tho Government's decision will probably be announced on Monday. Mr W. (J. Morquette, a returned soldier, has been appointed to the Financial Assistance Board, vice Mr 0. W. Chilman, resigned owing to ill-health. Seven hundred and fifty-six schools have returned the sheets issued in December by the Postal Department, whereby children can exchange a sheet with 16s worth of stamps affixed for a £1 war loan certificate. The best returns arc: Maranui (Wellington) 52, Fernhills (Invercargill) 34, Bombay (Auckland) 28, W'hakatano (Thames) 26, Waikaka (Invercargill) 26, Matakana (Auckland) 18.
