SALVATION ARMY

At tho Salvation Army Citadel in Dowling street last night there was a largo attendance to witness the installation bv Commissioner Hodder of Staff Captain Gunn, tho new commander for tho Dunedm Division. After devotions, the Commissioner gavo a brief address. He said that, in addition to introducing Staff Captain Guuji and his wife, he hud to bring before uis Dunedin friends the new secretary for tho women's social work—ho referred "to Major Dobnoy. This lady had travelled in m;i:iy parts of tho world. She had been on the Continent of Jiurope, she had served for a few years in South America, she had done service in Jamaica, and further service in Canada aud the United States, she had travelled considerably through China, Corea, and Japan, and at last she found herself in "God's Own Country."—(Applause.) She had been a wanderer on tho face of tho earth, and had found a heaven at last. Adjutant Avencll (corps officer), on behalf of the men, welcomed Staff Captain Gunn to the district. Ten years ago ho served under tho captain, and the teachings he then had at the captain's hands, arjd the good influence ho received from him, remained with him to this day. Throughout, tho length and breadth of Now Zealand tho name of Staff Captain Gunn was synonymous with goodne-ss, sound judgment, warm lieurtedness, and out-and-out Salvationism. —(Applause.) Other representative speakers were Captain Moore (women officers) and Staff Captain Parkes (matron of the Ilcdrcofs Home), who epoko for women social workers! and an address was also given by Lieuten-ant-colonel Bray (secretary for the men's social work). Staff Captain Gunn and Mrs Gunn who were cordially welcomed, replied to tho speakers, and assured tho mooting of their intention to continue, with God's help, to strivo to tho best of their ability in the new sphere in which they had been placed. Major Dobnev, whose headquarters will bo in Wellington, also spoke,_ arid received a very lieartv welcome. During the evening the Suburban Songsters sang "The Shepherd of Israel," and tho City Silver Band played selections.
