The following is tho substance of the resident engineer's report During April da-edge 222 lifted 33 loads, equal to 27,489 cubic yards of material, from the vicinity of Rattray street and Victoria wharves. Of this material 26,656 cubic yards were deposited at the Vulcan and 833 cubic yards at the Kaik. The dredge steamed 28 miles and burned 68 tons of coal. During April the Vulcan pumped into Lake Logan 26,656 cubic yards of spoil received from dredge 222. During April two vessels were docked in tho Otago dock and three in the Port Chalmers dock. For the four weeks ended May 15 two altars over a length of 60 feet were renewed, making a total of 72 feet of new construction on the north side of the doolc. The concrete mixing plant has been transfeiTed to the south side of the dock, and) a start made at breaking out tho shattered concrete on this side of the dock. For the five weeks ended May 15, 900 cubic yards of material wore deposited in the maintenance of the south endowment wall. Repairs to Portobcllo, Broad Bay, and Company's Bay jetties have been compdeted. Repairs are at present being effected: to tile caps and beams in the Birch street wharf.
