MR ISAAC; GREEN RETURNED. Tlw by-election hold yesterday to fill tho vacancy on tho City Council caused by tho resignation of Ct Carroll did not attract much public interest-, this being no doubt duo to tho prevailing opinion that MiGreen's return was a forgone conclusion His opponent was Mr John Garse Arbuckle! The total number of names on tho citv roli was 26,050. and only 1819 recorded their votes. Of these Mr Green secured 1118 and Mr Arbuckle 691, and there were 10 informal votes. 'Hiere was no official declaration of tho poll last night, but subject to a cheeking of the votes Mr Green was returned by a majority of 427.
