A young woman, named Miss Alice Pitt, formerly of 136 Cranston street, St. Albane, who was visiting friends in Wellington, was found dead in bed this morning. It is believed that she had been under medical treatment in Christchurch. CHRISTCHURCH, May 22. Mr Charles Brown, working manager of tho Crown Iron Works, and a prominent member of the Scottish Society, died suddenly last night. On Sunday evening (says the Southland limes) Mr John W. A. Roberts, residing at M'Master street, East Invercargill, died somewhat suddenly, heart disease being tho cause. Deceased formerly lived in Dunedin, but went to Invercargill to tako charge of the Rosodale woollen mills. Ho loaves a widow and seven children, two of sons being on active service. r J.he hospital report concerning- Firemen M'Gill ami Oliver, who were injured in tho lire motor accident last week, states that both men are progressing fairly well. David Maxwell, who received a fracture of the left thigh while working at the wharf on Tuesday, is reported Jo bq making satisfactory progress.
