SHOEMAKERS' STRIKE
OBJECTION TO UNSKILLED WORKER.
(Pbr United Pbksb Association.) AUCKLAND, May 16. The Murray Shoo Company ceased work last night io consequence of a disputo with tho employers regarding the employment of an unskilled, "worker.
It is stated that a man "who is not a returned soldier was put on in tho finishing- department, and sent to tho union oftice to join as a member, but was refused. The reason given was that one of the members was then out of employment. When this man was placed in tho finishing department the foreman and the others refused to give him any instruction m minor operations, and tho firm dispensed ' r sorv icos. Tho workmen stated that they wero acting in accordance with a resolution of the union, and they also they objected to an unskilled man receiving the same wages as they did after five years' apprenticeship.
