CHRISTCHURCH SEDITION CASES.
o PLEA FOR CLEMENCY. (Per United Phess Association.) CHRIST-CHURCH. May 16 At tho conclusion of the mooting of the Ohristchurch Second Division League tonight the following motion was carried unanimously, and with applause:—"That this meeting, having a full knowledge of all the civcumstanccs connected with tho sedition cases and the convictions arising out of the recent public meeting, is strongly of opinion that tho action taken was not meant as an incitement to reservists to resist authority, but was intended to be addressed to the Government with the object of hurrying an immediate betterment of the conditions of I'crviee. and would earnestly urge on the Minister of Justice that clemency should be shown to the offenders, and the remainder of their sentences remitted.' - Tho Chairman (Mr R. A. Armstrong, of Wellington) said it had been liis opinion all along that there had been no intention to induce reservists to resist. It was further decided that the chairman be empowered to present, tho resolution to the Minister of Justice, and endeavour to get the stigma of sedition removed from the men s records.
