FEILDING ASSAULT CASE
ONE MA No. CONVICTED,

PALMERSTON N., Mav 16. Before Mr Justico Hosking. Michael Ronghan, Simmon M'Greal, and James Egan were charged with assaulting the Rev. Frederick Stoclcwoll at Feilding on February 13, and doing him grievous bodily harm.
Evidence was given that, at the conclusion of a Protestant Political Association meeting, a crowd followed Mr Stockwell and other e'ergymen along the street. Eventually Mr Stockwell was violently assaulted, and received injuries from which ho is still suffering. After hearing the evidence for tho prosecution, the judge ordered that M'Greal and Egan be discharged, there being no evidenco to connect them, with tho actual assault. Tho judge summed up against Ronghan, and the jury returned a verdict of guilty. Sentence was deferred.
