QUEEN'S AND KING EDWARD THEATRES.

"Paws of the Bear," a fine Triangle drama, was screened for the first time at tho Queen's and King Edward Theatres yesterday. The opening scenes of the story are laid in Belgium at the time of the German invasion, the leading characters being an American traveller (William Desmond) and a Russian spy, who is impersonated with great success by Clafa Williams. Having protected her after she had shot a German general, he is sentenced to be executed with her, but just as the sentence is about to be carried out a bomb from an Allied aeroplane falls and exterminates the firing party. The two escape, and are next seen on an Atlantic liner bound for America. At this stage their relations become somewhat strained owing to the fact that the lady is then pursuing an Austrian spy, who proves to be an old classmate of the American whom he entrusts with the keeping of an important secret service document. The situations in which the two are placed owing to the American's loyalty to His friend, and ihe subsequent events which occur during the unfolding ,of the efcory form a play' ivf exceptional interest, which grips the audience until the climax is reached and a happy ending attained. The film is beautifully photographed, and as a war drama is sure to prove attractive to many picture patrons. An interesting number of the Gaumont Graphic and two comedies, one of which is a Keystone. production, form the supporting items.
