MILITARY FUNERAL
The funeral took place yesterday of Private Smith, a late member of the 20th Reinforcements. The funeral, which was of a military character, left the residence of the deceased soldier's stepfather v(Mr M'Oulloch), Carr street, North-East Valley, where the preliminary religious service was conducted by the Rev. Mr Evans. Subsequently the contege, which was followed by a large number of returned soldiers and civilian friends of deceased, proceeded to the_ Anderson Bay Cemetery, where the remains wore interred. Both pall-bearers and thp firing party, under Sergeant Prentice, were composed of Anzacs. The ceremony at the graveside was conducted by Chap-lain-captain Millar, while the Lost Post, sounded by Bugler Hill (of the Territorial Forces), completed an impressive ceremony. The Defence Department was represented by Major Fleming (assistant-director of supplies and transport), who was responsible for the arrangements. ■>
