EMPIRE THEATRE
The under-world of life provides much material for the romantic pen—it is a field which seems to lend -itself to endless exploitation by ambitious novelists. This contention is amply demonstrated in "A G.rl Like That," a melodramatio subject heading the change of programme at the Empire Theatre. The story is woven round the theory "honour among thieves," and deals with the disastrous results inc.idental to the "double crossing" of their chief by a gang of bank breakers. The main character is a young girl, NelT Gordon, daughter of the gang leader, but who does not aoprove of her father's bizarre occupation, yet who, at tho same time, is an accessory to his acts more on account of her devotion to him than by criminal instincts. To facilitate the robbing of a bank by the gang tho girl is deputed to wheedle her way into the good graces of the bank custodian, but her plan is frustrated by the intervention of Oupid. What follows may well be imagined. The programme also contains a Travelogue of exceptional merit, together -with a good comedy, and an educational number.
