ANNUAL MEETING. ; , (Pμ Dbitid Psms AssociXtioh.) WELLINGTON, January 30 The annual meeting of the New Zealand Institute was presided over by Professor Benham. It was stated that tho Minister of Internal Affairs had agreed that tho vote of £230 for ~ the encouragement of scientific research should be entrusted for expenditure to tho institute; also, that the questaon of granting relief in the Government Printer s account was receiving the Government's attention.
The President, in his address, said it seemed-to him that the institute should take a much more active part in urging the importance of better training in scientific methoc.s Jμ the secondary schools, and m urging on the industrial community the need lor scientific organisation and cooperation. It to the institute that the Government should bo induced to turn for advice and assistinco on any matter in which science was involved. The matter of scientific afforestation was ono that demanded immediate attention. Regret was expressed that tho erection of the new museum had been postponed.
