LONDON, April 8. (Received April 9, at 5.5 p.m.) General Smuts reports: THe mounted force, under General Van der Venter, on the 4fh inst., surprised and sur* rounded a German force with machine guns in a mountain stronghold in the Arusha district. The Germans sur= rendered on the 6th.
