WITH THE RUSSIANS
PROMISES TO GERMAN SOLDIERS. FURLOUGH PERMITS. PETROGRAD, November 12. Documents found on German prisoners and dead show that their commanders sustained their troops during the pursuit with promises that the Russians would soon sue for peace. Furlough permits, dated in August, stated that if peace with Russia were signed during the currency of the permit the holder would not need to return to the front, but would rejoin at his regimental depot.
