Senator Fald urged that a sterner national policy would have prevented the present anarchy in Mexico. Senator Lodge attacked Mr Bryan because he had followed Mr Taft's laissez faire policy. Senator Beacon asserted that Mr Taft had constantly used diplomatic means to protect American interests in Mexico, but lie had sought to avoid being drawn into war. The question would later be discussed by the Foreign Relations Committee, but he believed that President Wilson was steadily averse to intervention, the constantly growing gravity of the Mexican situation.
