OIL BORING
NORTH ISLAND OPERATIONS. (From Odr Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI. July 22. The oil industry in Taranalu is very active just now. The derrick and appliances at the Phoenix bore, .in the vicinity of the refinery, arc completed, and drilling operations arc to be prosccutcd forthwith. It is intended to work night and da.y shifts at the bore.
Tho official opening of the refinery was discussed ,it a meeting of directors. It has been found impossible owing to the smallpox epidemic to induco a parliamentary |>arty to make the visit. Both the Hon. Mr Frasor (Minister of Mines) and the Hon. Mr Fisher (Minister of Customs) have accepted the invitations, acd will attend the opening coromony if their parliamentary duties will allow.
Mr J. J. Craig and a number of commercial men of Auckland have organised a syndicate to drill for oil on a large block of land behind the producing wells at Moutoroa.
