THIS GOVERNOR'S SALARY.
SHOULD IT BE REDUCED?
'■ (Knojr Quit Own Cojhkspokdent.) ' November 19. ■A radical proposal was mado by Mr T. £. Taylor this evening. Ho said that in view o,f the recent retrenchment he bad intended to move the reduction of (he salary of bis Excellency the Governor by £2000 a year to bring liia salary down to what it was " when in a moment of folly " this country, with more money than it knew what to do with, threw him £2000 • in addition to what he was jotting before. The Governor's salary \va3 then raised from £3000 to £5000. and bo (Mr Taylor) did 'Hot see why he should not stand in tight, times with the whole population and have bis expenditure cutdown with that of so many others, He found, however, that, the only way to find 'nut if the House was in'favour of asking his Excellency to come into lino with the people for whom he had presumably a regard, was by the introduction of a bill. He would'ask leave next eiiting day to introduce a bill to rochicc the Governor's salary from £5000 to £3000.-( Laughter,) When his salary was previously increased, Mr Taylor added, there was not a tittle of evidence to show 'that he was underpaid or sweated,
