WESLEY CHURCH (OARGILL ROAD) ANNIVERSARY. _ Tho twenty-seventh anniversary of the Gargill Road Wesley Church was celebrated on Tuesday evening. After a most enjoyable" tea had been partaken of an adjournment was made to tho church, where to a fairly lar-nj audienec the pastor (Rev. W. cx pressed his gratification at the successful year which had just been concluded. On the financal as well as tho spiritual side of the church alTairs there ha<l been much to afford encouragement. 11 0 wished to emphasise the splendid work performed bv their local preachers. He was pleased to report vigorous growth in the Bible class and also m the Christian Endeavour society, lheee were performing a splendid work. He regretted, however, tho sparee attendance at tho week-iiMit meet ings, and he urged on the members tho benefits to bo derived by their presence in the way of spiritual refreshment. Tlicv wore now practically within sight, of the extinction of tho circuit debt, that was provided they went on for another one and a-half yeara as tliey had during the past year. He congratulated the trustees on the splendid parsonage church, and school they now poMeacd, aH of which were in exec lent repair. They liad £100 in hand tor the new organ, and another £100 was promised, out of £450 required. The present was his last term of office, and he trusted that the church would continue its' vigorous life m increased prosperity. Rev. P.-- W. Fairolough brieflv addressed the meeting on " Temperance Reform." With regard to the present crisis lie was sure that with the contemplated alteration of the licensing legislation there would bo a singular interest taken in th© efforts of temperance reformers at the next option poll. If the proposed enactments became !a.w he was confident it, would not be many years before they witnessed the total extinction of the liquor traffic. Ihe Rev. R. Fairmaid also delivered a short address on "The Hopefulness of the Christian. A lengthy programme of choruses and solos was rendered very acceptably by the choir and others, encores being demanded 111 almost every case. Mr C. B.
