AN AGGRIEVED ENGINEER.
INQUIRY DEMANDED. (Per United Press Association.) CIIRISTCHURCH, October 28. The Selwyn County Council had a long discussion 'at its meeting to-day on two letters which had been received from the engineer (Mr A D. Paterson). The first letter stated : "The serious charges made against my honour and my administration, and the allegations of the excessive cost of works ■ attributed to mismanagement, published in tho daily papers from time to time, compel me to ask for a public inquiry, at which the reporters and a professional gentleman who is aware of the value of work entailed in the instructions issued by the council from time to time during the past four years will be present. 1 would like the matter to be arranged as early as possible before a full council and before the present members retire. Under the present conditions it will be impossible for me to report to the council until I have your answer." The second letter amplified Mr Paterson's complaint. The matter was discussed at length, and it was resolved—" That the letter be received. and Mr Paterson bo invited to make specific charges if he desires an inquiry."
