A petition ia being drafted to be circuMed throughout Westland urging on tbo Government the necessity for immediately giving consideration to the application for water rights for generating electrical-, power from the Te Aroha Folk. In view of the difficulty as to the timber industry,it would bo well that the Government would give such an impetus to mining as the granting of thee© concessions would certainly mean. An application for a. water right of 300 heads from the Taipo River will be before the Warden' ■ai Kumara on Wednesday next. This is in connection with tho development of the wood pulp and white paper industry, a ■ reserve of 30,000 acres having been set aside by the Government last session for this purpose. It is to bo liopad that the ' amended legislation proposed by the Government- to enable them to deal with the application to. 1 water power now before thorn will shortly become law, .18 it is proposed to expend a large amouin of money in Westland by capitalists in the development of hydroeiectvical power for - mining and industrial purposes.
