At tho hearing of the ohargo of perjury against Connelly today, Detectives Campbell ami M'Hvoswy and Inspector Black gave evidence denying that Gaoler Carlyon had stated that Halinen and Anderson were innocent men, and that Connelly ought to ■ have been arrested. Detective M'llvehey and Inspector Black also stated that Mrs Pearce, at an interview, made some mention to them about uncustomed tobacco, but the latter witness said she stated that she knew nothing about tho men charged with tho murder of Bourke.
