After completing her repairs, making a. set of sails, and obtaining a now pump from Tahiti, the Norwegian schooner Alice, which readied here in a disabled condition on June' 27 last, : resumed hor voyage to New Zealand on the 30th ult. Owing to tile wet making tho cargo of guano 60 much' heavier, she' had to leave about 25 tons behind, being pretty heavily loaded without it,

On the sth inst. the schooner Yaitc returned from the northern islands with some 85 Inns of copra and a few tons of pearl shell. After - discharging she took over the rest of the Atiu dancers to Atiu, and called at Manuae for some copra, but owing to bad weather could not take it off. Tho Hauroto arrived a day late this time, having been detained by bad weather on the New Zealand coast. ,A 6 she has a large cargo for Tahiti, including 300 tons of coal, and calls at Mauke for 5000 cases of oranges, in addition to Aitutaki and Mangaia, sho wiH probably bo three days lato reaching Auckland. this time. Unfortunately she will probably havo to leave some of tho Rarotoiiga cargo behind, owing to want of space, and shippers arc being limited 'to a certain quantity pending the steamer's arrival. Tho need for a larger vessel is becoming more and more evident. There arrived by this steamer tho hew Resident for Niue, Mr Cornwall, • who is accompanied by his wife. They wait here for the Countess of Ranfurly to take them to Niue, and this schooner should turn up any day now.

Colonel Gudgeon went over to Mauke a few days ago in the Vaite to hold sittings of the Land Court, Mr Connal (the Government Surveyor) and his assistants having gone there last month to make surveys in preparation.' Tho Commissioner expects to stay there till arrival of the John Williams early next month. Tile co'met is plainly observable hero just now, but wo can only see one of its seven tails. The weather is still cold and rather wet, which is not usual at this time of-the year.'
