MEN LEAVE THEIR WORK.

iv AUCKLAND, Septemher 2. A disagreement regarding, payment of f<wrv-boa.t'- fares between Auckland . and tho Calliope Dock led to some 20 men who were employed by the Ferro Concrete Company on its contract at the dock laying down their tools to-day''"and ' refusing to proceed with their work. They had beenreceiving 8s per day and boat fares, paid, but.tho company declined to continue payment of the boat fares, with the consequence that the men left tJieir employment, as the reduction meant- 6d each.- It is understood that they all found other work during tho day. , Mr Mooro, tho managor of the company, said-tho company came to the conclusion that it could not. be reasonably oxpeotcd to pav boat fares any more than if, should'be oallcd. on io pay tho fares of employes from the suburbs to the city.
