At the Sxvprcmo Court this morning John Olson was .sentenced to two years' imprisonment and one flogging ot 25 lashes with "the cat" for entering the premises of a married woman at nj?ht and attempting.to assault her. His lipnor said lie waa opposed to lons sentences, and in similar eases would make them sharp.

Mr .fi)e|iee Williams allowed the appeal of Frank Coutts, who was fined £50 for sly grog-soiling. His Honor eaid that since i.ho case camo. before the magistrate facts had. comn to light which completely discredited the principal witness for the prosecution, who made a deliberate attempt to obtain monor from Contts to suppress his evidence. No judge or jury cnuld he justified in-giving the smallest credence-to evidence that the witness had given. Tho convirtion wns thoroforo quashed. William Edgar Tait claimpd from A. Moritzson and Co,, of Dunedin, £270 as the price ot hide? fold. Tho defendant counter-claimed for - .€75, as damages for non-delivery, and also for £10 17s 6d, special damages. Tho ease was unfinished when tho court adjourned for the day.
