APPORTIONMENT OF THE COMI PBNSATION.

(Per United Prsss Association.) INVERCARGILL, August 29. The matter of tho settlement of tho claims in reference to the Nightcaps disaster was /mentioned in the Supreme Court to-day, ahd his Honor made tho final apportionment na follow^: —Mrs Carson, £400; lier children, £500 equally divided; Mrs Duncan, £300; her children, £600 equally divided; tho two children of Walsh, £200 each. In regard to tho settlement .it should bo mentioned that from tho first the .company has snown a desire to make adequate provision for tho widows and families of the deceased. Before proceedings weio instituted, it is elated, the company .offered £1000 to Mrs Duncan, '£1000 to Mm Carson, and £300 to Walsh's children. THE ROYAL COMMISSION.

The Niglitcnps Commission, after a formal opening to-morrow, will adjourn till Monday, when evidence will bo taken. On Saturday the commissioners will visit the scene of tlio. disaster.
