Mr Deakin states that owing to New Zealand not apparently desiring to participate in the conference in England on the navigation laws, the reconsideration of the position of Australia- may bo necessary. The Imperial authorities had fixed the date of the conference for April 15. He had been in communication with the Imperial Government for some time, and had assumed there would be no restriction on the q'uostions to be brought forward, but he had received lio reply, though a question in the House of Commons adduced the answer that- the conference would be unfettered. A further query was as to whether it would be so on fiscal matters. A definition was asked for, but nothing more had transpired.
