VISIT OF FATHER HAYS.

A meeting of those interested in forming a committee to nrrangc for it reception to the Rev. lather Hays on the 201 h inst. was held in tho Council Chambers, I'ort Chalmers, Inst evening. Tho chair was taken by the Mayor (Mr D, A. Be Minis), and tho gathering included the llov. U. C, Tennent, Messrs E. CJ. Allot), M.11.R., J. Tsit, G. L. Asher, W. Mawson, W. Horn, and some 30 others. Apologies were received for tho unavoidable absence of tho Rev. Mr Taylor, Rev. Father Howard, Messrs Powell and A. Cable.—'l'he Mayor, after expressing tho pleasuro he felt at feeing so many present, explained the. purpose for which (ho meeting was called, and said ho trusted they would cordially unito in doing honour to so eminent a man as Father ' Ilays.—The Rev. Mr Tennent pointed out that it was quite customary to extend public recognition to men whose talents had rendered them eminent amongst their fellows, ami tho least they could do was to extend a welcomo to ono who lmd done so much for his fellow creatures as had the Rev. Father Ilays.—(Applause.)— Those present resolved to form themselves into a eommitleo to make tliu necessary arrangements, and it was dsoided that the Rev. Father Haya should ho welcomed by a committee representing the whole of tho citizens. Mr \V. Horn was appointed secretary. On the motion of the Rev. Mr Tennent a. sub-committee, consisting of tho Rev. Father Howard, the Rev. Mr Taylor, the Rev. Mr Ward, his Worship tile Mayor, Mr E. 0. Allen, -M.11.R., Mr W. Horn, and tho mover, was appointed to prepare an address of welcome. Hi.l Worship tho Mayor kindly placed his room at the disposal of the committee.
