VITAL STATISTICS.

Tho following vital statistics for the month of February uro published in last week's Gazette:—.

Total Dunedin and suburbs .. .. 58,938 93 37 0.03 The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 438, against 519 in January— a decrease of 81. The deaths ill February were 147, a decrease of 50 on the number in January. Ot the total deaths, males contributed 83 and females 64. Thirty-six of Ihe deaths vera of children under five years of age, being 24.49 per cent, of tlio whole limnben; 28 of these were under one year of ago. Thero were 42 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Seven men, 00, 67, 72 (two), 74, 77, 88, and' four women, 65 (two), 71, 80 died at Auckland; five men, 67, 72, 76, 78, 84, and fivo women, 6!i (two), 69, 79, £9, at Wellington; six men, 66, 61, 71, 74 (two), 30, and two women, 63, SO, at Ohrislcliurch: and eight, men, 65, 69, 74 . 73 (two), 81 (two), 89, and five women, 66, 70, 74, 78, 80, at Dunedin.
