Mr James Watson Shaw has been nominated as the Otago University candidate for tho Rhodes scholarship. A Wellington telegram slates that Mr A\. M'Hutchoon, of Whangamoana, Taranaki, has been appointed to fill tho vacancy on the Land Commission caused ,by Mr W. S: ltcid's resignation. All Auckland telegram states that Lady Onslow arrived in Auckland from Rotorua yesterday. Mr Mackenzie Forbes, of Wanganui, who was well known at one time, as one of tho finest athletes at Uiledonian gatherings, arrived' in Dunedin last night, and is staying at the Excelsior Hotel. At tho monthly committee meeting of the Y.W.C.A., after the usual business had been transacted, a letter was read by the vice-presi-dent from Miss Morlcy resigning her position as matron of the Y.W.C.A. Boarding Home. The resignation was received with regret. Miss Morley's services having been eminently satisfactory and highly valued. Those prosent expressed hearty good fishes tor her future. Jtr Charles Belworthy. stationmaster for the past five years at Pelichct Bay, was 011 Saturday evening Ihe recipient of a presentation from a number of friends. The gift took the form of a handsome silver cake dish. While at Pelichet Bay Mr Belworthy, by his courteous and obliging manner, has made hosts "of friends. Ho leaves to fake up the position- of stationmaster at Lawrence. A pleasant 'unction took place in,tho Trades Hall last evening, when the Lithographers' Union tendered to Mr Theo. H. Mueller, a member, a smoke concert, on the occasion of his leaving Dunedin with the intention of going hbme to the Fatherland for a trip. Mr Mueller, has been connected with the firm of Messrs Fcrgusson and Mitchell as a lithographer for the past seven years, and Mi R. Brown, on behalf of the union, in presenting him witli a gold medal, echoed the feeling of his fellow-workers when he said that the recipient would be missed, not only .by his employers, but by all who had worked with him, 'as lie possessed in a very marked degree not only the qualities which made, a good workman, hut also those which made a sociable 1 and obliging comrade. The speaker hoped that Mr Mueller would soon be back amongst them. The Chairman of the evening (Mr Cbas. A. Clark) and others bore testimony of Mr_Mue!!cr's worth, after which Mr Mueller, in a neat and appropriate speech, replied. A long toast list,, interspersed with songs and recitations, was concluded shortly after 11 o'clock.. '
