The Caledonian Ground wears a very animated appearance nightly just now with the various competitors at club's sports 0.1 Saturday getting fit for the different events, Thcro are motor -riders careering round on their machines, bicycle riders doing their trainors' allotted tasks, and running men doing their winding-up sprints. A feature of Saturday's Motor Itace should he the appearance of Chefalo, tho daring looping-the-loop rider at present performing at Wirth's Circus, who has entered his 3} h.p. " Champion" {or this event, while E. J. Ritchie, the Christchurch rider, has acquired a. reputation by the. times he has put up nn his 2 h.p. Minerva in the northern city. However, Dunedin men will pin their faith to "Dod" Bell in this event, remembering the times he put up at the club'B sports on Boxing Day, 1003, when he got over several laps of a quarter of a mile in a- fraction under 22sec. Standring is another Cbristchurch rider who has a good oiamo as a motorist, and this event should prove well worth a journey to thc'Calcdoiiian Ground to witness. The " mufflers" will be removed from the motors ii } tin's event, to enable the machines to run more easily. The quality of the bicycle riders is of a liigil order, as with Randrup, Chalmers, and the two Amsts competing, the champion riders of New Zealand may be said to he represented. Huston. Stevens, J. Conncll, and Fleming have good performances to their credit as and the other competitors, both local and visiting, have been training assiduously, so these events should provide exciting finishes.. The two running races have received excellent entries, and altogether the prospects of a successful meet-
ing may be said to very rosy.
