An Auckland telegram states that the Australians loft .Auckland; far: Wellington yesterday, via tho Wangamii River.' A Wellington telegram ..states, that tho Mayor has proclaimed a half-holiday for theopening day of the Australia v. Wellington cricket match.' The Employers' Association refused to declare n half-holiday on that (lay instead pf Wednesday as a majority of the shopkeepers wero against it. '. A majority of the shop assistants, therefore, will'bo unable to see tho Australians play there,'' The'decision of tho Otago Orickot Association to play 13 men # against the' Australians has caused a- great- deal of dissatisfaction amongst locat'cricketers and enthusiasts, who hope Id see. the men from Australia batting under the host conditions. There is a likelihood of the matter being opened up again at the next meeting of the association. If any doubt exists in tho minds of thoso as yet undecided as to ti.e number which, in tho interests of the game, it were best to place in the. field, tho following reply on ■ the subject from the manager of tho Australian Eleven should settle tho matter for them—"Australian team considers 11 preferiiblo in tho interests of cricket and educative purposes, but prepared to play 15." .The foregoing is conclusive, ant) ' should : advise those, of tho propor course to adopt. The Albion journeyed to Green Island l on Saturday, and suffered defeat from-the local club by three wickets and 22 runs.
