CA VERSHAM PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH YOUNG MEN'S CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Caversbam Presbyterian Church Young Men's Club was held

in the Presbyterian Hal], Caversham, on Monday evening. The chair was occupied by Mr G. M'Laren (president), and about 30 inernbei'3 were present. The report, which was read at the meeting, congratulated members on (ho success which, has attended the club during tho past year. Out of the funds which have been raised several articles have been purchased which had helped to mako'the meetings more attractive, such as a ping-pong tablo and accessories, a book case, boxing gloves, draught boards, otc. Notwithstanding these purchases the club was in a good condition financially, having a credit balance of £4 lGs Id at the close of tho year. In moving tho adoption of the report, the President drew the attention of the club 'members to the fact that the club did not limit its membership to thoso who wero connected with the Presbyterian Church, that it was open to any respectable young man to become a member whether ho attended church or not. The club had been inaugurated with the object of promoting the interests, both. intellectual and social, of its members, and it helped to keep them off the streets. Messrs C. Young and E. T. Caldow also spoke of tho advantages of such an institution in the district, and hoped to see tho time when the hall would be crowded.

It was resolved that a printed syllabus be issued this year in order to bring the society rooro prominently before those it is intended to benefit. Numbers -are looking forward to a very successful session, as the fact that the institution is serving a good end is becoming better known, and thcTO is certain to be a large increase in tho membership roll. The fee has boon fixed at. a very low figure, and as the club has special attractions, it can he confidently recommended to thoso youths who desire, to pass an evening in tho week pleasantly and profitably. ' • Tho following officers were elected for the year,:— President,.Mr .G. M'Laren; vice-presi-dents, Messrs E. Jones and G. Jackson: secretary, Mr P. Jones; treasurer, Mr J. M. Brown; librarian, Mr H. Grieve; committee—Messrs W. .Russell, W. Currie, and A. Gallagher. A. hearty vote of thanks was passed to Messrs Young and Caldow for tho interest they had taken in tho club. Tho opening social will bo held on Friday, May 8. Before dispersing the meeting passed a vote of thanks to Mr M'Laren for presiding.
