SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.

MOSGIEL DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. The annual meeting of householdem was largely attended. Mr J. C. Hodges, who presided, supplemented the annual' report with a few remarks. The number on the school roll was 295 all told. The number on the High School roll was 23, as against 19 in the previous year. George Hendry, ono of tho pupils, gained a senior scholarship, and John Rutherford passed the civil service examination. After tho report had been adopted somo dt?cus?ioti took place ■as to tho state of the school ground after rain, and .it was suggested that stops should bo takcrf to form a cadet corps' and erect a gymnasium. Twelve candidate? were nominated, the voting being as follows:— .T. C. Hodges, 41; J. Dicker, 36; J. A. M'Kinnon, 33; E. Wilson, 31; A. Marshall, 30; M. Hendry, 28; J. Rowan, jiui., 26'; A. E. ■ Falconer, 23; E.' Arundel, 21 (elected); A. Draklcy, 21; A. Barron, 17; and A. Davidson, 14. There being a tie for ninth place, the Chairman gave his casting vote for Mr B. Arundel. In doing so lie said that gentleman had dono good on tho committee in the past, and ho therefore deomed ii his duty to again put him there to do further work—(Apiplause.)

The shelter sheds and tho janitor's residence have been greatly improved, and some asphalting done. Garden classes have been carried on with groat interest on a. piece of ground lately acquired, adjacent to tho school. Both the general and tho special' funda ended with a good credit balaneo, and the old residence .now brought in a yearly rental of some £13. Tho thanks of the committeo aro duo to Mr Stewart (tho master), for his instructions to tho children in gardening, to Mr C. Maxwell for ploughing new ground,' to Mr Kerr fo;* his assistance to tho swimming classes, and to Mr T. Smith for the great amount of time and cuergy, expended in connection with i-ovoral works undertaken by the committee. PALMERSTON The annual meeting for the election of a committee for the District High School was held on Monday evening, but very little interest was takon by householders, only (vomo 24 putting in an appearance. Tho following were declared by tho chairman (Mr J. C. Gow) duly elected:—Mwsrs E. H, Clark, W; Hopkins, T. Muir, A. Gilmore, son., R.- Wheeler, Rev. J. Olarko (reclooted), E. Lefevro, B. Dean, and J. In' 'September the school was examined by Inspector Richarflson, with tho usual first-olass results. In December our annual concert was hold in tho Alhmdalo Hall, and was pronounced on all sides to be tho most successful over told'in tho district. Maroh quarter—Roll, 06.5; average attendance, 83; percentage, 95.4. This gives n percentage of attendance for tho year of £6.8.

RAVENSBOURNE.-Tho newly-elcoted' school committeo for the Ravonsbourno district mot after the election on Monday evening, and appointed the following officers:— Chairman, Mr P. G. Cray; treasurer, Mr Robert Jack;, secretary, Mr ,C. W. George; Works Committee—Messrs Thornicroft (chairman), Milnes, and Pago. It was decided that tho committee should moot every second Monday in the month. SAWYERS' BAY.-The meeting of householders at Sawyers' Bay was somewhat sparsely attended. Mr Duko was voted to the chair. The annual report was read and adopted, tho retiring committee being complimented by vnrious sneakers on the manner in which they had carriod out their, duties, and for which a unanimous voto of thanks was accorded them. The election of a now committee then took place, only two of the old mombors offering themselves for .ro-eloction. Thero were oighfc nominations, and the following seven gentlemen were declared elected:—Messrs Hall M'Kinnon, Harvey, Johnstone, Downes, Marshall, and Pitliio. A mooting of tho committeo was aftorwards hold, Rt which Mr Marshall was elected chairman, Mr Pitbio secretary, and Messrs Hall and Harvey a Works Committee for tho ensuing year.

HIGHOLIFF.-Thoro was a fair attendance at the annual meeting, and the balance sheet, which was adopted, was considered satisfactory. Now committee; Messrs J. Duckworth (chairman), J.
