«— —— Messrs A. E. Leatham and A. D. 'Whatman, of Lord Hawke's cricket team, who remained ; behind in New Zealand for the deer-stalking i season, leave Dunedin to-day upon their return to England. Mr Lsathain contemplates another I visit to tho colony. Messrs 11. Cowen, J. Fairbaim, and J. A. I neekie havo been elected without opposition to the Peninsula Eoad Board. j Messrs W. Cowen, J. King, and A. Henderson have been elected unopposed to the Tomahawk Road Board. I The funeral of the lata Constable O'Sullivan, of Ravensbouriie, took place yesterday, the ccrtego leaving St. Joseph's Cathedral ! at 2 p.m. for the Southern Cemetery, There was a large following, including the- Mayor of West Harbour (Mr P. G. 'Cray), Inspector O'Brien, residents of West Harbour, and members of Iho police force. The service at the I grave was conducted by Father Howard. On Saturday last a number of friends met at 1 the residence of Mr and Mrs S. Ellis, Sandy mount, for the purpose of presenting them with a pair of armchairs us a small token of esteem . on the occasion of their leaving tho district to take up their residence in Dunedin. Mr Rutherford, in making tho presentation, referred to the length of time Mr and Mrs Ellis had resided in tho district, Mr E'.lis having suitably responded, games and dancing were indulged in. After tea and cakes had.been handed round and ilnly appreciated, the smgiV of " Au'.d lang syne," followed by three cheers for Mr and Mrs Ellis, brought a very pleasant evening to a close. j Mr Robert Murray, of Tokomairiro, holds a record as a school committeemen no doubt unI equalled in the colony. His election to the ; Tokomairiro District High School Committee on Monday night marked the forty-seventh time of representation on that body. Mr Murray was first a member of committee in 185G, and has only once since then missed being elected, on which occasion he forgot the date of the annual meeting, and was not nominated. Yesterday afternoon at the office of llcssrs Morrow, Bnosett, and Co., Cumberland street, a number of the friends of Mr Frederick Archer met to wish him luck on the occasion of his : marriage. Mr Archer was presented with some valuables tokens of tho estciin in which ho is held. | .
