MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES
The quarterly summoned meeting of the Ivanhoe Lodge, No. 113, U.A.0.D., was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Albany street, A.D. Bro. A. Walker presiding. There was a very large attendance of visitors and brothers, including D.P.' Bro. A. D, Hunter, No 19 District. It was resolved to donate £5 towards the, Mount Kembla relief fund. A letter wah lead.from his "Worship the Mayor (Mr J. A. Park) re the fallen soldiers', memorial. It was \manimously decided—" I'hat no action bo taken in the- matter, as we consider that numbers of the living soldiers have much more pressing claims." The Secretary reported that tickets for the annual social were going off splendidly, arid the function promised to be a success. After the usual toasts had been duly proposed and honoured, the lodge closed in peace and harmony at 10.55. Receipts, £147 18s. : •■•■■■ The Alliance Lodge, 1.0.0. T., held their usdal weekly meeting in the Friendly Societies' Hall, South Dunedin, on Wednesday, Bro. Thompson, C.l\, presiding. Bro. Sandilands was elected S.J.T., vice Bro. G. Thompson (retired). Miss Daisy .M'Farlane was elected lodge pianist. Harmony was contributed -by Sis. B.'M'Farlane (piano solo)., Sis. V. M'Farlane (song), Bro. Manet (song), and- Bro. Thompson (song). Bro. D. C. Cameron spoko on "The Good of the Order." The vote of thanks to the visitors was responded to by Hyo. Cameron (Pioneer), Bro. Monson (Lily of the Valley), and Sis. Thorn (Hope of Cavershiun). The South Otago District Lodge hold their monthly meeting in Rattray. Street Hall on Thursday evening. Degree Master Bro. Chas. Hodges occupied the chair. Six candidates for the second degree we-re instructed. Bro. J. Alexander (G.T.) gave the instructions. The D.D.G.M. (Bro. Jas. Pattison) presided over the district meeting, held later in the evening. The various lodges were well represented. It was decided to donate £1 Is to the fallen soldiers memorial. A card tournament between Pioneer Lodge and Unity Lodge, 1.0.0. F., took place in the Friendly Societies' Hall, South Dunedin. The contest resulted in a win for the Pioneer members, the scores being as follow:—Cribbage— Pioneer 11 games, Unity 11 game's; euchrePioneer 21 games, Unity 14 gomes.. Vocal items were rendered by Bros. T. Cole (P.G.M.), R. M'Kinlay, and G. Dunne (P.G.s), T. Todd, Ji M'Dougall, and B. Swete. The weekly meeting of the Crystal Spring Juvenile Temple was held in the Choral Hall on Saturday evening, Bro. A. Cameion (C.T.) presiding. One candidate was initiated. The following contributed to the harmony:—Piano* forte duet, Sisters Cameron and Roach; recitations. Sisters Ferguson and Churchill; songs, Sis. Davis and Mies Hall; duet,, the Misses Hall; pianoforte solo, Sis. Innes (encored). Several brothers responded for their lodges.
