LICENSING DEADLOCK.
' (Per United Phess Association.), RAWEHA, July 1. A doadlock occurred in connection-with Hie Licensing Cominitteo ,to-day. At tho annual meeting ,ni application for a .n'ew' license at Eitham was considered, ■■ the license at Normanby being dropped by ifr Hawkins in order to create a vacancy. The, commilteo dccided to give a decision on July 1, rs if Hawkins'? application was.granted then there would have been an extra Jioenso in existence, To-day llioro was no quorum, two country members being absoi)tl One of those was not present at "tho annual meeting, nncj even if ho had attended to-day ho would not be competent to adjudicate. The oth«r absent mombor was urgently wired to to )w present at- 3 o'clock, failing which the chairman talks of a mandamus to compel attendance •
